Degenerative Achilles (Haglunds Deformity)

Degenerative Achilles (Haglunds Deformity)

  • Achilles tendonitis with inflammation and pain at the insertion of the Achilles tendon with retrocalcaneal bursitis and Haglunds deformity (calcaneal bony prominence)

  • In minor and moderate cases where the Achilles tendon is functional with limited degenerative changes, Dr. Marsh resects the Haglunds deformity and retrocalcaneal bursa through an arthroscopic approach

  • In severe cases with limited Achilles function and significant degenerative changes, Dr. Marsh performs a retrocalcaneal bursa excision, resection of Haglund deformity and debridement of diseased tendon with anchor repair through an open approach
